Excursion by coach to the Hay Festival, Hay on Wye

In one of the most beautiful settings in the country the Hay Festival is a top attraction on the festival circuit. The theme was be “Imagine the World – Shakespeare and Cervantes”. With its many bookshops and the festival itself, this was a great day out. Highlights included hearing Ian Rankin the crime novelist speak about his work and Steve Jones (the geneticist) and Jim Al-Khalili speak about their short books on Evolution and Quantum Mechanics for the new Ladybird series.

Saturday 8th July

The wedding of Samuel Johnson and Elizabeth Porter

We were cordially invited to ….. the Charles Stuart Society , an historical re-enactment group of the Jacobite Cause which re-enacted the wedding in St Werbergh’s Church, Derby, at 12:00. In the afternoon we  visited Derby Museum & Art Gallery. A highly diverted day.
